At the age of 17 I started cycling. I had an older brother who road raced and competed nationally and got me hooked on the sport of cycling. Pretty much everyday through spring, summer and fall, I would be on my bike.
At the age of 19 I started weight training. I joined a gym and immediately was addicted on weight training. Although I continued on with cycling for my cardio, weight training became my obsession. My whole life I was always so skinny and I always thought skinny was in. As soon as I started seeing bodybuilding women in the gym, I liked the way their physiques were and I wanted to someday look like that. I thought muscle on women was attractive and realized that skinny was no longer in.
I competed in my first bodybuilding competition in 1993 and then again in 1994. I continued on with training at the gym but didn't feel like competing in bodybuilding anymore.
In 1998, I had some of my friends whom were aerobics instructors convinced me to compete in a National Sport Aerobic competition. This was something way out of my league and I knew nothing about this kind of sport. I accepted the challenge and we competed as a team at the Canadian National Aerobic Championships in Ottawa, Ontario where we placed 2nd out of Canada.
I then went on to compete in Fitness. I competed in Fitness America in 1998 where I placed 2nd in my group and then in 1999 where I placed 5th in my group. I realized though that I was out of place and couldn't compete with gymnasts and thus didn't want to continue on with competing in fitness.
I continued on with going to the gym religiously and still weight training to stay in shape. In 1999 I met my husband, Chad Kerr. I moved to the small town of Estevan to be with Chad.
In 2003, I competed in my first Figure competition. I placed 2nd in our provincial novice show. Then in 2006 I competed in my 2nd Figure competition where I placed 1st in my class and then went on to win the overall provincial title. On June 30, 2007 I competed at the Canadian Figure/Fitness National competition in Edmonton, Alberta. I won my IFBB Pro Card and was totally ecstatic! This was my first time ever at Nationals. I am still in shock and can't believe that I am an IFBB Pro. All the years of training and looking up to Pros in the magazines and now to be amongst them is truly amazing.
Now my journey will begin as an IFBB Figure Pro.
